Now, in no way do I consider myself an experienced runner and neither do I live for getting up at obscene hours in the morning to sneak in a quick 10k before work, rain or shine.
The reality of the situation is that last week I was sitting at my desk speaking with colleagues about ways Instant can raise money this year for our chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society.
Having lost family members to the disease myself I was keen to do what I could to help out…and quite obviously, I was feeling rather overzealous!
Within a day, I had signed up to run the Brighton Marathon on the 17th of April, giving myself just six weeks to train (I even brought in my running kit to run home from work that day because I was feeling cocky).
While I ran the Brighton marathon a couple of years ago what really spurred me on to do it this year is that most people said it wasn’t enough time to train and I wouldn’t be able to do it.
Big mistake!
Luckily, my ludicrously naive confidence seems to have dispelled repressed memories of the sideways rain and probably the longest hill I have ever run up in my life.
I started training two weeks ago and as expected, Week 1 hurt, a lot!
This was however, probably the most important week to get my feet used to impact of the road again, evidently so in
comments from colleagues about me limping around the office looking exhausted and a tad worse for wear.
Week 2, I can already say is completely different. I am now up to running 15 miles quite comfortably and starting to feel that I can do this, and beat my previous marathon time (just to make things a bit harder).
I also seem to have shed a few pounds which will no doubt mean that I will be more streamlined to cruise round the 26.2 and raise some money for a great cause.
My next run is 18 miles on the weekend and I am hoping that it all goes well. Stay tuned for updates.
I welcome any donations and appreciate all the support!
